Art is incomparable and irreplaceable

Editor,I personally attended the opening ceremony and was overwhelmed by the kind of artwork that was displayed. And for those who do not know, art brings you closer to nature, it is an abbreviation of creativity, an inspiration of our inner thoughts, it’s a true soul of a nation, and to sum it up, art has never been without meaning in Africa.

What we need in Rwanda as a country is to try as much as possible to sensitise people on the importance of arts (visual arts) in making and preserving history, beauty and continued cultural creativity in our country. Art evolves around vigorous thinking that puts ones artistic impressions to reality. We need to nurture the young and talented generations to come up with a more profound thinking and be positive in life and get close to real life. History is not from books and tales but visual art give the totality of being. One sees history, feels the art and touches culture in a more realistic way.It is through this that we can testify the originality of Rwandan creativity. Art unites people in their interpretations of artworks. Here’s a very good example: People who visit the National Art Gallery in Nyanza leave happily and changed, all with smiling faces that create some kind of a positive development in as far as the attitude of the mind is concerned.David Nkusi, Nyanza, RwandaReaction to the story, "Regional visual arts exhibition opens in Kigali”, (The New Times, June 22)
