Cogebanque donates over Rwf67 million to Unity Club Intwararumuri

Cogebanque, one of Rwanda’s leading commercial banks has donated Rwf 67.7 million to Unity Club Intwararumuri as part of their commitment to corporate social responsibility.

The donation will support the Integration Community Development Project (ICDP), an initiative aimed at boosting the welfare of vulnerable Rwandans.

The symbolic cheque handover took place on Thursday, July 27, as representatives from Unity Club Intwararumuri received the contribution from Cogebanque.

Unity Club is dedicated to fostering unity among Rwandans and strives to make a positive impact in their lives.

The primary focus of the ICDP is the construction of &039;Four Together' houses, unique homes consisting of four houses built in one unit, with each house designed to accommodate an entire family.

Speaking about the partnership, Guillaume Ngamije Habarugira, the CEO of Cogebanque expressed the bank's admiration for the organisation's work. He emphasized that although Cogebanque is a commercial bank, their customers are like family, and they strive to collaborate with partners who can reach out and make a difference in the lives of those in need.

"Unity Club has been a valued partner of Cogebanque for the last seven years. The ICDP aligns perfectly with Rwanda's commitment to uplifting its citizens and ensuring their well-being. By providing secure and comfortable housing, Unity Club and Cogebanque are not only fostering unity but also contributing to the country's overall development and prosperity,” Habarugira said.

Régine Iyamuremye, the Executive Secretary of Unity Club Intwararumuri shed light on the origins of the ICDP. Initially, Unity Club focused on building houses for vulnerable widows known as &039;Intwaza' who were sole survivors of the 1994 Genocide against Tutsi in their families.

With support from the First Lady, Jeannette Kagame, the organisation established settlements in four districts: Huye, Bugesera, Rusizi, and Nyanza, providing a safe haven for these widows and helping to restore their hope.

"Recognizing the plight of neighbours living near these settlements, Unity Club envisioned a plan to improve their living conditions as well. The ICDP was born, aiming to construct housing units that accommodate four families each, symbolising unity and collaboration. The initiative started with the construction of houses for 36 families in Huye district,” she said.

This donation from Cogebanque will be directed towards the construction of another unit capable of housing four families. Unity Club Intwararumuri expressed their sincere gratitude for the contribution, which will significantly improve the lives of vulnerable Rwandans.
