The National Children Commission (NCC) is set to introduce leadership clubs in all secondary schools across the country. The commission said this would entrench a spirit of leadership and patriotism among children and help nurture them into good future leaders. The clubs will provide platform for children to express their views and opinions on what is happening in their schools, thus developing their critical sense and self-confidence early in life, officials said. The initiative was launched in Nyanza District during the week of the Day of the African Child.Zaina Nyiramatama, the executive secretary of the commission, said the clubs have been introduced in schools in Kigali."Through these clubs, children will start thinking of their responsibilities at a tender age, thus becoming responsible citizens in the future,” Nyiramatama said. "It is important to start training to become citizens and leaders who will continue to safeguard people’s rights, security and development gains achieved.”Nyiramatama said the clubs will be monitored to ensure that they achieve their goals.
