Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA) awarded over 90 employees who have worked for the last 10 ten years. The recognition comes ahead of the 10th anniversary celebrations due to take place on 12th this month.

James Musoni, the Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, presided over the awarding ceremony at La Palisse, Nyandungu last Thursday.

Mary Baine, RRA Commissioner General was among the staff recorganised. She received a certificate.

Baine commended her staff for their effort towards developing the country through tax collection and the growth of the tax body.

According to provisional revenue collection data, the tax body has surpassed half-year revenues collection. Whereas Frw136 billion was targeted to be collected between January and June this year, Frw157.4 billion was collected—a remarkable increase in revenue of Frw21.4 billion. 

Charles Lwanga, Director of Planning and Research in RRA attributed the increased revenue collection to improving services over the years.

Through audit, the tax body recovered Frw8 billion from tax payers who had under declared the tax returns. With increasing revenue collection, Baine was optimistic that RRA will speed up the Vision 2020 objectives.

The vision envisaged that the income per capita of Rwandans will increase from 220 dollars in 2002 to $900 by the year 2020.

”We need to work hard and translate our activities such that we achieve economic independence,” she said.

She urged staff to embrace the changes that the organisation will face as a result of joining the East African Community (EAC).

"You are no longer RRA staff of Rwanda alone but instead consider yourselves as regional staff now.” she added.
