The British community in Rwanda and friends of Britain gathered at the High Commissioner Ben Llewellyn’s residence in Kacyiru on Thursday evening to celebrate Queen Elizabeth’s birthday.It was an evening of fun as members of the British community feasted and toasted to Her Majesty,  Queen Elizabeth II ’s health, decked in formal wear.From the gate to the gardens, the colours were blue, red and white theme.Members of the diplomatic community, government officials and employees of the British High Commission as well as DfID were part of the selected guests.The British head of state celebrated her 87th birthday on April 21 but, as is tradition, it is not until the end of May through June that the real festivities for her birthday take place.The by-invitation only event was characterised by British food, wine and beer. Minister of Finance Ambassador Claver Gatete was among the VIPs present.The Holy Jah Doves ensured that the guests wereentertained with an exciting live band performance.The Rastafarian siblings played out their old tunes, ‘Maguru’, ‘Umuntu ni’nkundi’ and ‘Kunkombe z’uruzi’ among others, as well as renditions of Bob Marleys classics.The Queen’s birthday is celebrated worldwide especially among Commonwealth countries, though the specific dates vary.
