Rwanda, Burundi defence chiefs meet

Burundi Defence Forces Chief of General Staff, Maj Gen Prime Niyongabo is in the country on a three-day official visit.   The Chief of General Staff is leading a delegation that arrived in the country on Monday. The visit is aimed at strengthening the cordial relations between the two nations. The CGS who inspected a Guard of Honour at Rwanda Defence Forces headquarters yesterday was received by his RDF counterpart, Lt Gen Charles Kayonga and later paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Defence, Gen. James Kabarebe. "Maj. Gen. Niyongabo and his delegation held discussions with RDF CDS Lt. Gen. Charles. Kayonga, Service Chiefs and Joint Staff on a range of issues spanning security, sharing of intelligence and capacity building of both Defence Institutions as per the Defence cooperation between the two countries,” said Brig. Gen. Joseph Nzabamwita, the defence spokesperson. The Burundian Chief of General Staff earlier visited Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre, where he told reporters that Genocide must be fought by everyone. "This is horrible and must be fought by every one, young or old”. The Burundi Defence Force delegation will visit RDF’s Zigama CSS, Military Medical Insurance and Gako Military Academy in a bid to strengthen the cordial military relations. The visit follows the one made by Gen. Kayonga to Burundi in April.
