Soca superstar Kevin Lyttle to perform at Kwita Izina concert

Mr. ‘Turn Me On’, Kevin Lyttle will jet into the country tomorrow to grace this year’s Kwita Izina celebration. This will be his maiden visit to Rwanda.

Mr. ‘Turn Me On’, Kevin Lyttle will jet into the country tomorrow to grace this year’s Kwita Izina celebration. This will be his maiden visit to Rwanda.The free Friday concert which will take place on the sidelines of the ninth edition of the international tourism event, will begin at 3pm in Musanze Stadium. Tanzania’s Bongo Flava artiste Ali Kiba will perform alongside Lyttle.Local artistes Jay Polly, King James, Knowless and Ama-G the Black will also share the stage with the two international stars.The official Kwita Izina ceremony will take place on June 22 in Kinigi, Musanze District. Apart from performances, the day will also feature Rwanda’s rich and unique traditional dances by the National Ballet. This year’s Kwita Izina will see 12 baby gorillas named, under the theme, ‘Celebrating Nature, Empowering Communities’.Kwita Izina is inspired by the ancient Rwandan tradition of naming a baby soon after its birth. Since its introduction nine years ago, 161 gorillas have been named in a celebration of nature and the communities who protect these magnificent animals.Burundi’s Kidumu, Bebe Cool of Uganda and the late Oliver Ngoma are some of the performers who have graced past Kwita Izina events.Who is Kevin Lyttle? Following his breakout success with the smash single "Turn Me On”, in 2004, the St. Vincent and the Grenadines native, real names Lescott Kevin Lyttle Coombs, has been hard at work touring the world.His September 2008 album, ‘Fyah’ that was released in Japan featured smash hits like "Fyah”, "Something About You”, and "Be Alright” ft. Skinny Fabulous. In 2010 Lyttle released another hit single "Anywhere” ft.
