The German Technical Corporation (GTZ) has donated Information Technology equipment worth Frw50 million to the office of the Prosecutor General in Kimihurura. The equipment donated included 30 laptops, four printers, one projector, and accessories.

"We have had a good, long-lasting relationship with the office of the Prosecutor General. We started with building up a database for the Gacaca programme at its inception, but we have since widened our operations with the office and are looking forward to giving more support,” said Dr. Mathias Muhlhans, the GTZ principal advisor on justice and good governance programme.

Present at the handing-over ceremony were the Deputy Prosecutor General, Alphonse Hitiyaremye, and the Secretary General in the office of the Prosecutor General, Jean Damascene Habimana.

"We undertook a decision of increasing technological operations to step up our services, envisioning every worker to be having a laptop, and so far we have achieved 30 percent of this. These 30 laptops and other equipment donated to us by our partners will immensely help us realize our target and improve our services,” said Hitiyaremye.

GTZ has had a 14-year working relationship with the Office of the Prosecutor General in various legal programs, policy reforms and decentralization of these reforms in all administrative levels. It started its operations in Rwanda in 1994, and its contract is scheduled to end in 2011, but will likely continue up to 2014.
