Uwizeyimana wins Genocide Memorial race

RIDER Bonaventure Uwizeyimana of Benediction club won the 2013 Genocide Memorial race which was organised by Rwanda Cycling Federation, National Commission for Fight against Genocide (CNLG) and Rwanda Governance Board over the weekend.

Hategeka 2h50’16’’WomenJeanne d’Arc Girubuntu 29’20’’Clementine Niyonsaba 30’33’’Benita Ingabire 30’34’’RIDER Bonaventure Uwizeyimana of Benediction club won the 2013 Genocide Memorial race which was organised by Rwanda Cycling Federation, National Commission for Fight against Genocide (CNLG) and Rwanda Governance Board over the weekend.The Team Rwanda rider Uwizeyimana clocked two hours, forty seven minutes and twenty five seconds to come first in the 107 km race on Saturday.Jean Claude Uwizeye finished second 2 hours, 48 minutes and 04 seconds while senior rider Nathan Byukusenge took third position.The riders rode from Nyanza (Kicukiro) to Nemba at the border of Rwanda and Burundi before returning back.The competition attracted 45 riders, 35 in men’s category and 10 in women’s category. The women riders rode 20km from Nyanza, Kicukiro to Nyamata.In the women category, Jeanne d’Arc Girubuntu came first ahead of Clementine Niyonsaba and Benita Ingabire.The one-day tournament was meant to remember some of the riders who were massacred during the 1994 Genocide against Tutsi such as Edouard Gasinzigwa, Theophile Gahutu [Cinee Elmay cycling club], Kayumba and Kayibanda [Club Rwamagana], Ariette based [Club Gisenyi], Francois Musoni [Club Butare], Ancelime Sakumi, former vice chairman of the Rwanda cycling federation and Gasato who was the national team member.
