Dodo appointed new Police Fc chief

Col [rtd] Louis Dodo Twahirwa has been confirmed as the new president of Primus National Football League side Police FC.The development was confirmed on Saturday by the Inspector General of Police [IGP] Emmanuel K. Gasana who also doubles as the club’s Honorary president.IGP Gasana also appointed Ugandan born coach Sam Ssimbwa as the team’s head coach, replacing Serbian Goran Kopunovic who had been at the club for three years.Jean Paul Kalisa who helped Gicumbi earn promotion to the Primus league for 2013/14 season was appointed assistant coach replacing Alphonse Gatera while Desire Niyonzima retained his position as the goalkeepers coach.Dr. CSP Francois Sinayobye and CIP Claude Bana is the head doctor and team manager respectively.Col (rtd) Twahirwa will be deputised by Commissioner of Police (CP) Emmanuel Butera.Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Jean Nepo Mbonyumuvunyi is the club’s Secretary General and Spokesperson.The Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) Stanley Nsabimana and Alphonse Katarebe are the 1st and 2nd honorary presidents respectively.The IGP lauded the outgoing coach, Kopunovic for his dedicated service during his tenure and for reviving the team to be among the best clubs in the country.The Serb joined Police three years ago and transformed the team from an average side to a formidable challenger for both the league and Peace cup trophies. In his debut season, Kopunovic guided the law enforcers to a third place and a slot in the Peace Cup final where they lost to APR 4-2 in extra-time.In the 2011/12 season, Kopunovic pushed APR to the limit for the league title before his side folded and also lost the Peace Cup final 2-1. Police were also given their first taste of continental football by Kopunovic, although the team didn’t go past the first round.In the 2012/13 season, he managed to help Police finish as runner-ups to Rayon Sports, who won their first league title in nine years.Twahirwa who is not new to football management pledged full commitment to take the Police FC to another level. His priorities, he added, will be to bring new blood in the squad to compete fevoulably in the next season’s national football league.Twahirwa was the president of the defucnt Atraco Fc which won the Primus league title, Cecafa Kagame Cup and reached the third round of the Caf Confederation Cup in 2007.
