THE CECAFA secretariat has shut doors on Tanzanian clubs to compete at this year’s Kagame Club Championships after their government approved them to compete on the last hour.

The deputy minister for Information, Youth, Culture and Sports, Amos Makala, told Tanzanian press that the government received assurance of ensuring security to all the teams participating in the tournament.

"Eventually we have got assurance from Sudan government that it will take up responsibility to guarantee security of the teams... and we now allow our clubs to go to Sudan,” he said at an impromptu press conference.

The Cecafa secretary general Nicholas Musonye rubbished reports from Dar es salaam that the Tanzanian government had finally cleared Simba and Yanga to take part in the event after they had pulled out. 

He said the door is shut and the tournament will go on without teams from Kenya, Zanzibar and Tanzania, and whoever wanted to follow saboteurs.

He reiterated that no single country or an individual has the capacity to sabotage Cecafa and those who attempted to do so will fail in all their programmes.

He further added that Cecafa cannot be held to ransom by individuals who do not even know where North Darfur and South Kordofan are.

The 2013 Cecafa-Kagame cup is set to kick off in the City of Kadougli in North Kordofan on Tuesday and El Fasher on Wednesday.
