Alexis Dusabe is a renowned local gospel musician who dropped his first album in 2004. The singer talked to Susan Babijja about his forthcoming album and more…

You have been quiet since you dropped your first album in 2004. What have been the highlights of the past nine years?

Well, I have been working on my second album, which I am set to launch on June 30 at the Kigali Serena Hotel. Although I have been out of the game for a long time, I have been doing my best to give Rwandan gospel music aficionados the best of local gospel.

While you were away, several Rwandan gospel musicians took that advantage to win themselves several fans. How do you plan to get to their level?

Personally I think singing is my talent. I don’t have to struggle to win fans. For instance, my next album, Njyana i Gologota, is laden with important messages. It is as beautiful as my first one. I believe Christians will like it. Besides, I still have very many fans. Also, I don’t sing to compete with others; my mission is to spread the word of God.

Tell us more about the launch concert…

The event will start at 3pm so that even other artistes can have enough time to perform. Performers will include Gaby Kamanzi, Dominic Nic and Simon Kabera. Personally I will sing 20 songs nonstop, which will be like preaching… Entrance is free as long as you buy a CD.

And what should we expect from your latest offering?

It is a ten-track album done in various genres of music, including R&B, pop and jazz.
