Four teams, two men and two women have pulled out of next season’s national basketball league, the Rwanda basketball Federation Secretary General Richard Mutabazi has confirmed to Saturday Sport. The teams include; the National University of Rwanda (men and women), Kigali Institute of Education (men) and Circle Sportif de Kigali (women). It means next season will have eight men’s teams namely; Rusizi, Circle Sportif Kigali , United Generation Basketball, defending champion Espoir,30-Plus, Kigali Basketball Club, former league winners APR and newcomers Gisenyi Basketball Club.In women category, only the champions APR, Ubumwe and Rwanda Allied Peace for Progress have registered for the new season."It’s unfortunate that instead of having more teams registering, some are just pulling out, but as federation, there is nothing we can do. The good news from all this is that at least there is one new team in men’s league (Gisenyi Basketball Club),” said Mutabazi. He added, "To have four teams puling out for next season is a big blow to Rwandan basketball but we have to accept it because some teams are struggling financially.”
