Dear editor,

As the week commences, people in Rwanda are still under the fourth Liberation Day hangover. Unfortunately, most people think that Liberation Day is political.

I want to make it clear that liberation does not only have to be political. It can be a social, economic and personal too.

Personal liberation involves emancipating yourself from mental slavery. This means being open minded about things that happen around us.

I have noticed that so many Rwandans are not flexible in the way they think. This has its disadvantages because for personal development to occur, new ideas have to be born and adopted.

Some of the things Rwandans need to be emancipated from is their die hard habit of spitting wherever they are. This is a very disgusting behavior of which a lot of noise has been made and still people are not listening.

This depicts the extent to which mental slavery can affect personal liberation of people. The only way to succeed is to put effort on an individual basis to liberate oneself.
