A cabinet meeting on Thursday, September 8 approved the ambassador of Barbados to Rwanda, a first to be named from the Caribbean country. The envoy was named following a visit by President Kagame to the island country in April this year, during which he emphasized the importance of cooperation between this region and Africa. The Caribbean and Africa have a lot in common, beginning with people. There is that deep connection that the geographical distance can’t eliminate. So the first thing we have to do is create that environment and possibility for people to travel, he said. According to the statement on cabinet resolutions of 9th August 2022, William Alexander McDonald is the approved high commissioner of Barbados to Rwanda with residence in Nairobi, Kenya. The same cabinet also approved other diplomats representing their countries or international organisations to Rwanda and these include; Luisa Maria Machado da Palma Fragoso, ambassador of Portugal to Rwanda with residence in Addis, Ethiopia, Amadou Hassane Mai Dawa, ambassador of Niger to Rwanda with residence in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and Ebrahim Mahmood Ahmed who will represent the Kingdom of Bahrain with residence in Tunisia. Cabinet also approved Hind Hassan Abdagalil, as the Country Director of the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) in Rwanda. Meanwhile, Dr. Subira Manzi, was approved as the honorary consul of the Kingdom of Estwatini to Rwanda.
