Bank of Kigali has committed $30,000 (Rwf 19.5 million) for the next three years to be utilised for surgical procedures on Rwandans born with cleft lips and cleft palates.The agreement, signed at the Bank’s headquarters in Kigali was entered into between the Bank and Operation Smile, an international children’s medical charity that provides free cleft surgeries to children and adults, around the world."The Bank is committed to transforming the lives of Rwandans not only by providing the most innovative yet inclusive financial solutions in the market but also by giving back to the community through its robust Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy. The small steps we take today contribute to a bigger change for a brighter tomorrow,” commented Dr. Shivon Byamukama, the Bank’s Company Secretary and Head of Corporate Affairs. Since the establishment of Operation Smile in Rwanda in 2009, over 1,000 patients have had successful cleft surgeries. The next round of surgeries is scheduled for Ruhengeri Hospital, Northern Province where doctors working with the charity hope are to perform surgeries on more than 100 patients.
