Rwanda swimming head coach Jackson Niyomugabo has said that he had faith in swimming duo Cedrick Niyibizi and Claudette Ishimwe that they can impress at the 2023 World Aquatics championships going on in Fukuoka, Japan, from July 23-30.

Niyomugabo left for Fukuoka alongside the Rwandan duo where they are representing Rwanda at the highly-anticipated swimming competition.

Niyibizi will compete on July 26 in the men’s 100M freestyle and July 28 in the men’s 50M freestyle, while Ishimwe will be competing on July 28 in the women’s 50M butterfly and on July 29 in women’s 50M freestyle.

Prior to the competition, Niyomugabo said, "This is a big tournament for them and it will be tough for them but I am confident they will give their best. They will be competing against one of the favorites but they are ready for the challenge.”

"The athletes trained well and are in very good shape. I am optimistic we’ll bring home some accolades. They have been improved their performance compared to the previous competitions and we hope to continue on that path,” he added

The World Aquatics Championships is a five-day competition held every two years, where the world convenes to witness record-breaking feats and action-packed races, with swimming stars from all continents.

The Championships’ concept of "Water Meets the Future” expresses the hope that all the participants will meet in the future.

The event aims to create the future of aquatic sports through innovative technology, and also create a future for the region by connecting various people from across the globe.
