Rwandair has launched flights to Accra, Ghana. The airline will be flying to Accra five times a week, John Mirenge, the chief executive officer, has said. "Expanding our network is good for us as a company and also for the country. The country will be more accessible, which is essential for economic development,” Mirenge said. He revealed that RwandAir had boosted its fleet with Boeing 737-700NG series aircraft to have an edge over its competitors.Robert Nsinga, the RwandAir marketing manager, said the airline targets carrying about 260 passengers per week on the Lagos-Accra route. Last month, RwandAir signed a purchase agreement with Bombardier Aerospace for a Q400 next generation turboprop airliner at $33m (about Rwf20.9b).The 67-seater, dual-class Q400 next generation aircraft puts RwandAir in a better  position to increase capacity on the new routes, Nsinga said.RwandAir also operates a fleet of four Boeing 737 series aircraft and one Bombardier Dash 8-200 turboprop and two new Bombardier CRJ900 next generation regional jets. The airline flies to two domestic destinations. It operates international flights to Nairobi and Mombasa in Kenya, Entebbe-Uganda, Bujumbura-Burundi and Dar es Salaam, Kilimanjaro and Mwanza in Tanzania. The airline also flies to Johannesburg-South Africa, Dubai, Libreville and Brazzaville. RwandAir will soon start flights to Juba in South Sudan, as well as Douala in Cameroon and Abidjan-Ivory Coast this year according to Mirenge.
