The Nyamirambo Gorillas beat Remera Buffaloes in a thrilling rugby game at Greenhills to take the lead in this year’s unsponsored league.

In a game where men were to be separated from the boys, last year’s league winners Nyamirambo proved the reason they are the defending champs when they edged out Buffaloes with a 14-13 win.

Both sides exhibited a lot of skill and passion during the game with Buffaloes’ seasoned skipper Lucien Bikamba drawing first blood with a penalty kick. Gorillas responded with a penalty try that was duly converted to settle the score at 7-3 in their favour.

A seemingly revived Buffaloes increased the tempo in the second half, earning them a try that was also converted. Another Lucien penalty could not save the Buffaloes when Gorillas’ Aime scored a try that was converted to end the game at 14-13.

This was a seemingly bitter point to take for the match losers, who attempted to overturn the decision in their favour without any clear reasons. The match commissioners, however, stood firm.

In the other day’s games, Lions trampled hapless Sharks 90-00, while the Simba-Puma game had to be postponed due to transport constraints and other reasons.
