They say numbers don’t lie and indeed they tell the story of a club like Rayon Sports football club, which had the highest number of victories and goals scored this season, enroute to  lifting the 2012/2013 Primus National League trophy.The Nyanza-based club was extraordinary especially during the second half of the season, beating former champs APR 4-0 and drawing with second-placed Police FC. So how about APR and Police FC? Both clubs have been as entertaining and dynamic as they have been this season, but not as impressive the seasons before. APR lost the Peace-Cup semi-final to AS Kigali on penalties over the weekend. Police lost their last crucial league game to AS Kigali (0-1) which saw the team finish 2nd for a third consecutive season, in 26 matches; won 14, drew 10 and lost 2, scored 40 goals to a mass 52 points. On the other hand, I can say, they emerged as the best team defensively having conceded only 13 goals in the league.Both Police and APR tried to perform better though results never came there way, and it was hard to pick out a single player, who was outstanding for them. Therefore, my most valued player of the 2012/2013 Primus league season is Rayon Sports’ Burundian international Cedric Amissi.Indeed, there were few candidates to consider, for instance his teammate Kambale Salita Gentil, who scored 13 goals, Police striker Peter Kagabo scored 12, while his partner Meddie Kagere, who played only the second round, scored 8 times. Compare that with Hamissi, who signed for Rayon in January but went on to finish as the league top scorer with 16 goals and was involved in most of the team’s overall outstanding displays.Amissi, Kambale and Fuadi Ndayisenga were outstanding upfront for the league champions, and if you are to look at the numbers, all the three players scored a combined 35 goals for the club. More than the combined goals scored by last three (MARINES, ETIENCELLES, ISONGA). Amissi deserves to be the most valued player having, scored 16 goals despite playing only second round of the season. He was extremely influential in his side’s wins, playing across the front, either as winger or at times through the middle.If we are to consider his performances for the five months that we saw him play, he played with skill across all wings, mutually as an offensive midfielder or striker.French coach Didier Gomez da Roza, had all the right reasons to position him on every boundary of the opponent’s side ready to put the ball in the back of the net, given his ability to position himself in the right place all the time. His technique showed that he can score at any time with a powerful shot, header, tap-in or even through penalty, and for that he deserves to be the 2012/13 Primus League season MVP.
