When The Ben, Meddy and K8 relocated to the US close to two years ago, many a Rwandan music fan thought that would be the end of their heydays. But the artistes have since been churning out some of Kigali’s top hits. First it was The Ben, who dropped I’m in Love, one of the most popular Rwandan tunes of 2012. Then, at the beginning of this year, Meddy also released Holy Spirit, a gospel track that has been steadily climbing local radio charts. Now the latest from their Chicago-based record label – Press One Entertainment –is Ndi Uw’I Kigali (I’m from Kigali), which is lately one of the most favoured tracks on local radio stations and in most Kigali nightclubs. Ndi Uw’I Kigali, whose production is credited to the talented hands of Lick Lick, tells the story of an unlikely encounter of a Rwandan boy and girl in the diaspora.
