SIXTY golfers are expected to compete in the inaugural Genocide Memorial Tournament scheduled to be held on Saturday at Nyarutarama golf club.
Rwanda Golf Union, in partnership with the National Commission for the Fight against Genocide (CNLG), is organising the event.
The tournament has attracted sixty golf players, eight of whom are women amateur golfers, according to Rwanda Golf Union president Andrew Nkwandi.
Speaking to Times Sport by phone yesterday, Nkwandi said: "It is of great importance for us golfers to remember a million of lives, including golf players, who were gruesomely killed during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.”
"So far, we have identified four golf players killed in the Genocide. We are still gathering information about other possible victims so we can honour them,” added Nkwandi.
Nkwandi added that they will be holding the tournament annually.
