AS Muhanga, who had a 1-0 deficit going into yesterday’s home game, secured the final slot after snatching a 2-0 win over second division side Bugesera.
Ugandan import Mike Juuko scored a double within the first 15 minutes to restore parity on aggregate.
Michel Ndahinduka wasted a clear chance in the dying minutes to deny Bugesera their maiden berth in the peace cup final.
This is the second time that AS Muhanga have overturned a first leg loss in this year’s cup competition. In the quarter-final second leg, Muhanga eliminated Mukura 3-1 on aggregate after losing 1-0 in the first leg.
AS Muhanga will now take on AS Kigali in the final while Bugesera will face APR in the play-off match.
AS Kigali knocked out APR 4-2 on penalties after a 1-all draw in the second leg of the semi-final played on Saturday at Stade de Kigali.
Having been beaten to the League title by rivals Rayon Sports and dumped out of the Peace Cup, the military side have had their worst season in 18 years.
The winner of the Peace Cup will pocket Rwf10 million; Rwf7 million will go to the first runners-up. The second and fourth runners-up will walk away with Rwf5 million and Rwf3 million, respectively.
Imbuto Foundation, the brainchild of First Lady Jeannette Kagame, sponsored this year’s Peace Cup tournament to the tune of Frw97 million, a development that saw the competition renamed "Peace Cup against Malaria.”
