GICUMBI — Ex- combatants grouped under Gicumbi Motorcycle Cooperative society have pledged to partner with the local community to promote unity.

The society also known in French as Cooperative proprietaires des taxis motors de Gicumbi is forming the partnership in order to spearhead unity and development.

They revealed this  at a get together Party (Ubusabane) to mark the Liberation Day celebrations last Friday.

Speaking during the occasion, the Mayor of Gicumbi district Bonane Nyangezi hailed the ex-combatants for their success in carrying out income generating activities and living harmoniously with the local population.

"You should maintain the discipline acquired from the army in your daily co-existence with the local population” said Nyangezi.

The president of Gicumbi motorcycle cooperative society Stephen Nshimiye said in addition to Motocycle cooperative society, Gicumbi district Ex-combatants are grouped in various cooperative societies such as bee farming, sugar cane farming, carpentry and welding among others. 

He urged other ex-combatants to form cooperative societies in order to uplift their economic welfare. "Hard work is the solution to poverty eradication and attainment of development goals” said Nshimiye.

On his part the outgoing district coordinator for Ex-combatants Stephen Mangwa hailed the ex-combatants for adhering to Rwanda Demobilization and Reintegration Commission’s (RDRC) program of peaceful reintegrating of ex-combatants in the Rwandan society.

"RDRC is proud of your peaceful co-existence with the local population and you should maintain the same spirit” said Mangwa.

Also present at the get together party were representatives of Rwanda Defense Forces (RDF) and National Police.
