RWANDA’s top seed Jean Claude Gasigwa failed to contain vengeance from Ugandan top seed Duncan Mugabe, who trounced him to win the Real Insurance Kenya Open Tennis Championships in Nairobi over the weekend.

Mugabe enjoyed sweet revenge on his Rwandan rival, winning in three sets 5-7 6-2 6-1 to claim his second Kenya Open title.

Gasigwa, who had beaten Mugabe in the semi-final of the Uganda Open in Kampala two months ago, won the opening set 7-6 but faltered in the second and third sets which he lost 3-6, 2-6 respectively.

Gasigwa couldn’t even restore the damage as he teamed with Zambia’s Edgar Kazembe in the doubles final to lose against Mugabe, who teamed up with compatriot David Oringa.

However, efforts to get Gasigwa’s reaction proved futile as he could not pick our calls. Other Rwandans Olivier Nkunda, Mubarak Harelimana and Dieudonne Habiyambere were eliminated in the third round.
