Youth from secondary schools in Musanze District have committed to fight genocide ideology and promote the culture of good governance. 

They made the vow on Saturday as Rwanda Governance Board (RGB), in collaboration with the National Commission for the Fight against Genocide (CNLG), launched a two-week nationwide commemoration for sports personalities killed in the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. 

The event was also preceded by the Walk to Remember. 

"We are committed to fighting genocide ideology. We look forward to leading our nation to prosperity since we are the future leaders,” said Jean Paul Tuyishimire, from Ruhengeri Secondary School.  

Anny Rosine Isinzizwe, another student, said: "As we remember these athletes, we should take note that many of them were youth and no doubt were killed by their teammates. We should build on that and promote unity and reconciliation.”

Dr Felicien Usengumukiza, the deputy director for research in RDB, said Rwandans, especially youth, should be determined to build a nation free from any bad ideology while leading the nation to sustainable development.   

"Good leadership principles and fight against genocide should be a prime task for every Rwandan especially the youth,” said Usengumukiza. 

CNLG and RGB will participate in financing sports competitions according to the available means. 

Sport competitions for 13 federations will be organised in Kigali, bringing together teams from all provinces.
