15 drivers expected to spice up Huye Rally

Fifteen Rally drivers will vie for championship points today when the 2013 Huye rally gets underway in Southern Province this afternoon.

Fifteen Rally drivers will vie for championship points today when the 2013 Huye rally gets underway in Southern Province this afternoon.Huye rally is the third round on the national rally championship which has four more rounds to the end of the season.Drivers who will be vying for points include Olivier Costa in a Subaru N11, Johnny Murengezi in a Subaru GT, Davite Giancarlo in a Subaru N11, Claude Kwizera in a Subaru N11 and Elefter Mitraros in a Subaru N11.Others are Feleken Mayaka in a Mistubishi Evo 3, Francois Cyatangabo in a VW Golf GTI, Janvier Mutuga in a Peugeot 205 GTI, Claude Gakwaya in a Peugeot 205GTI, Genese Semana in a Peugeot 205GTI and Adolpe Nshimiyimana in a Peogeot 205.This year’s championship has attracted foreign entrants from Burundi. The drivers who will spice up the rally include leading driver Abba Mohammed in a Toyota Celica, Thiery Mutore in a Subaru GT, Jean Jean Giesen in a Toyota Celica and Abdul Said in a Peugeot 205GTI all from Burundi.Action starts this afternoon with drivers traversing Save,Musha, Mukande, Gisagara, Duwani and Kabutare twice before winding up the day with a night stage set to start from Kabutare, Duwani, Gisagara and back to Kabutare.On Sunday, drivers will traverse Save, Musha Gikonko, Mutarama, Kimana and Mukoni twice before climaxing with a power stage later in the afternoon.The two-day rally which will be staged in Huye and Gisagara districts has a total distance of 286.3km with competitive sections covering 180km while road section is 88.3km respectively.After three rounds, Burundian Mohammed leads the Rwanda rally championship with 35 points, three ahead of second-placed Costa. Murengezi is third on the standings with 30 points while African rally championship driver Davite Giancarlo is fourth with 25 points.The rally has been sponsored by the Tigo, Bralirwa, Gemeca Petroleum and Hotel Ibis.
