Kenya who up to the semi-final stage had not lost a single set went on to set a new record after a straight sets victory over Algeria in the final.
The hosts cruised to their seventh CAN title after a 25-23, 25-22, 25-23 set win over the North Africans who were fresh from silverware after staging the 2007 All Africa Games.
Kenya’s heroics mean that she will take part at the 2007 World Cup Berth which is her fifth consecutive African vacancy at the international competitions following her qualification to the 2002 and 2006 World Championships, 2000 Sydney and 2004 Athens Olympic Games.
Kenya’s Dorcas Ndasaba who was later crowned the tournament’s most valuable player was very significant in Kenya’s triumph after consistently causing all sorts of problems to the Algerian defense.
After the victory, Kenya head coach Sammy Kirongo was very happy to gain the flowers of his work quickly after the depressing results in All Africa Games.
"Now we are looking forward to have a good representation for Africa in the 2007 World Cup in Japan.” He said.
Meanwhile, Tunisia won the bronze medal after defeating their compatriots Egypt 3-1 (18-25, 25-23, 25-21, and 25-23) in the third place match that lasted 100 minutes.
The one-week event which was staged in Nairobi attracted ten countries.
Rwanda who was making her debut at the competition finished last after failing to win a single game.
