Police in Bugesera District are holding a man suspected of assaulting his neighbour, who later succumbed to injuries sustained during the assault. The 34-year-old resident of Juru Sector in Kabukuba Cell, reportedly pounded Dancilla Mukambora, 60, with a club. Mukambora bled to death as she was being rushed to hospital by local authorities. The suspect is currently detained at Nyamata Police Station as investigations continue to establish what sparked off the criminal act. The suspect is said to have attacked the deceased on May 24 at around 10pm on her way home. Residents rushed to rescue her but it was too late to save her. Earlier threatsMeanwhile, residents said the suspect had earlier threatened to kill members of Mukambora’s family over a dispute with her son. Police say the suspect confessed to assaulting Mukambora, claiming he deliberately killed her in revenge, because he had earlier been beaten by her son. Supt. Athasase Nshuti, the Bugesera District Police Commander, condemned the act. He said Police in the area is taking stringent measures to prevent such acts and to ensure that such criminals face justice. He urged citizens to report family related disputes in time to prevent such people from accomplishing their evil acts.
