Twenty-three local football coaches were awarded an international level B licenses on Thursday after completing a two-week training course at Ferwafa headquarters, Remera.

The course, which was aimed at improving the coaches’ knowledge about the game hence improving the level of football in the country, was organized by the local footballers’ governing body (Ferwafa) and facilitated by the Germany football federation (DFB).

Of the 26 participants attended the two-week course, only three failed to get the required percentage mark in both theory and practical exams to qualify for level B license.

One of the Germany experts Spier Andreas, who conducted the course, appealed to the coaches to put the knowledge they acquired into actions. He however, urged that such trainings should be allocated more time than the two weeks in future.

"These trainings should at least take longer periods if the (benefiting) coaches are to acquire more knowledge and skills” Andreas said.

In his closing remarks, Michael Weiss, Ferwafa’s technical director urged the coaches to be devoted to their profession in order to achieve their professional dreams.

While, Ferwafa’s vice president Vedaste Kayiranga appealed to the coaches to stay focused and always think of how to improve their standards further up to the professional level.
He said Ferwafa shall continue providing more related trainings whenever necessary in the future.

Former national team goalkeeper Claude Ishimwe, who completed the course with the highest grades, noted that the future of Rwanda’s football lies in the hands of the coaches as they play the biggest role in developing the talents right from the grassroot to the highest level possible.

After this course, it was confirmed that eight coaches including coaches, goalkeeping coaches, physiotherapists, team doctors will travel to Germany for further training in the near future courtesy of the existing cooperation between Ferwafa and DFB.

The training was conducted by the two German experts, Spier Andreas and Stroh Alois assisted by local specialist Aloys Kanamugire, Sostein Habimana, Vincent Mashami and Antoine Rutsidura.
