APR football club lifted their eighth national Peace Cup after a 4-0 spectacular victory over Atraco yesterday at Nyamirambo stadium.

APR lifted their third Peace Cup in row thanks to Hegman Ngoma and Elias Ntaganda’s first half goals.

Elias Uzamukunda scored a second half brace to complete the most humiliating defeat on Atraco by APR in recent times. The military side led in possession from the start with the taximen chasing shadows.

Atraco went two goals down in the first half after miscalculations by Jean-Luc Ndayishimiye who was in Atraco’s goal.

Ngoma opened the scoring on 20th minute after beating Amoroso and skipper Ismail Nshutinamagara to loop custodian Ndayishimiye who had gotten off his line.

Ntaganda scored the second in the same style as he unleashed a light ball into Atraco’s goal.

Ndayishimiye cleared the ball from the corner and failed to get back into position giving   Ntaganda acres of space to get on to the score sheet.

Ndayishimiye was at fault for Uzamukunda first goal on the 75th minute when he failed to get hold of Mbuyu Twite longer throw in, giving the Amavubi player to score his first of the brace.

In 2007, APR under sacked coach Andy Mfutila defeated Atraco 3-1 to lift their 7th title.

Ntagwabira, having tasted unprecedented success with APR both as a player and later as coach, failed to win any title since taking over at Atraco. 

His preferred approach failed to work out as his opposite mate Rene Feller out smarted him to claim his first title as APR coach.

Atraco despite having some of the best players in the land has failed to break the dominance of the army side since coming into the spotlight three years ago.

The taxi-men club who are favorite to lift the league title leads the league table with 47 points in 18 league fixtures played while their rivals APR has 44 points with a game in hand.

Atraco must win the remaining four fixtures to be assured of representing Rwanda in next year’s African champions’ league.

If APR fails to lift the league title, it will take part in next year’s African Confederation Cup thanks the peace cup triumph.

APR bagged Frw. 5 millions and a trophy while losing finalists Atraco pocketed Frw. 3 millions. In the third and fourth play-off, Rayon Sport defeated SC Kiyovu 2-0.

Kiyovu’s Clementine Ishimwe scored an own goal to award the blues a breakthrough on the 30th minute of the game Rogers Tuyisenge netted the winner on the 80th minutes of the game.

This year’s championship is sponsored Mobile Telecommunication providers MTN Rwandacel to a tune of Frw. 20 millions.
