Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni on Thursday reshuffled his cabinet appointing former Chief of Defence Forces Aronda Nyakairima as Internal Affairs Minister.

Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni on Thursday reshuffled his cabinet appointing former Chief of Defence Forces Aronda Nyakairima as Internal Affairs Minister.Lt Gen Edward Katumba Wamala formerly Commander of Land Forces was promoted to General and appointed the Chief of Defence Forces.In a press statement sent to The New Times yesterday by the Uganda Media Centre, Hillary Onek, who was Internal Affairs Minister was transferred to Disaster Preparedness and Refugees’ docket.Former Information and National Guidance Minister Mary Karooro Okurut moves to the Gender, Labour and Social Development Ministry.She was replaced by Rose Namayanja who previously was the State Minister for Luweero Triangle while former ICT Minister Ruhakana Rugunda takes charge of Health replacing Dr. Christine Ondoa who becomes presidential advisor on Health.Museveni also appointed and transferred permanent secretaries in different ministries.Pius Bigirimana formerly of the Office of the Prime Minister goes to the Gender, Labour and Social Development ministry while long serving Education Ministry Permanent Secretary Francis Lubanga, has been relocated to the Health Service Commission. Other changes in the militaryIn a separate statement from the Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF), Museveni also appointed Lt Gen Ivan Koreta formerly Deputy Chief of Defence Forces as Ambassador of a Station to be announced later.Maj Gen Charles Angina formerly Chief of Staff of Land Forces was promoted to Lt Gen and appointed Deputy Chief of Defence Forces while Maj Gen Fred Mugisha formerly the Joint Chief of Staff was appointed Head of the National Counter Terrorism Centre to be set up.Brig Wilson Mbadi formerly of the 4 Division Commander was promoted to Maj Gen and appointed Joint Chief of Staff while Brig David Muhoozi formerly Commander Air Defence Division was promoted to Major General and appointed Commander Land Forces.Brig Samuel Turyagyenda, Commander Air force was promoted to Major General while Brig Leopold Kyanda formerly Chief of Personnel and Administration was appointed Chief of Staff Land Forces. Col Emmanuel Kanyesigye formerly 5 Division operations officer was transferred to 4 Division as division commander.
