The Rwanda Basketball Federation is planning to train 30 Level 1 local coaches. Codenamed "Young Coaches Model One” the training will run from May 26 to June 4 at Amahoro National Stadium.

According to the Federation Secretary General, Richard Mutabazi, the training is aimed at improving the levels of coaching which would facilitate the beneficiaries in their day-to-day work of training players across the country.

"We have some coaches, who are not trained especially in schools, at the grass roots and even in the national league but have been helping out in our youth development programmes across the country.

"Therefore, we need to give them the minimum required training so that they can have more knowledge of the game,” said Mutabazi.

He added, "We are working hard to improve the level of our coaches which will in turn also improve the players for a better future.”

"And the most important thing is to give coaches the opportunity to improve their level of coaching.”  The coaches will be trained with FIBA-Africa instructor Blaise Louamba Baleketa from Gabon.

Meanwhile, the senior national team which is made up of only local players is continuing its training ahead of the Africa Basketball Championships in Ivory Coast in July.
