Can we talk about those pet peeves?

In case you are wondering, a pet peeve is a minor annoyance that an individual classifies as particularly annoying to them - a greater degree than others may find it. I remember an ex who irritated me every time he crossed his legs. You heard me; crossing his legs!

In case you are wondering, a pet peeve is a minor annoyance that an individual classifies as particularly annoying to them - a greater degree than others may find it. I remember an ex who irritated me every time he crossed his legs. You heard me; crossing his legs!

To my friends and others, I was being silly but I was slowly but surely losing my mind. I wondered why he couldn’t just sit like other guys do. One day, after some serious tequila shots, I told him I couldn’t stand the way he sat and crossed his legs as if he was a woman! He just looked at me, not sure if I was serious.

After threatening to undo his legs myself, he realised I meant business and asked why it bothered me so much. ‘I don’t know. All I know is that it pisses me off,” I shot back. Puzzled beyond words, he told me he was comfortable sitting that way and I told him he simply didn’t look macho, and I COULDN’T be seen hanging around some ‘feminine’ man…I had a reputation to uphold!

Every relationship has its minor problems, but some are just downright annoying, like nervously clearing his throat way too often or leaving his dirty clothes all over the floor. It doesn’t sound like ‘the end of the world’ but it’s important to talk to your partner about these ‘simple issues’ that drive you crazy.

Some of the most common pet peeves in relationships are;

Nagging

Women are champs when it comes to nagging. We sometimes think we are entitled to it but if there is one thing strong enough to drive a man insane it is nagging. But since women were born to nag, I don’t want to imagine what a nagging guy is like.

Insolence to friends

Now he might be great to you, going as far as worshipping the ground you walk on but when it comes to your friends, he’s just awful. He might be a good person, but when he interacts with your friends, they don’t see him that way, and it’s important that the people you care about actually get along. They don’t have to be bosom buddies but are a few kind words really that hard?

Being late

Some people take the ‘late thing’ a little too far. Imagine waiting for someone for over an hour yet you had agreed on a certain time and when they show up, they tell you retarded things like, ‘I’m here now, am I not?” Dude, if I wanted to sit around looking idle, I would’ve done that from the comfort of my veranda!

Jealousy

It’s okay to get a little jealous from time to time – it’s just not okay to get green eyed every time your man smiles at a feminine creature! Just because people offer their attention doesn’t mean your man will run off into the sunset with them. Take it down a notch.

Lack of manners

It is no fun hanging around a man who doesn’t have a civilized bone in his body. Picking his nose or blowing them boogers into the very shirt he is wearing are simply unacceptable. If after a meal, he carelessly picks his teeth, spitting those bits right past your face, don’t suffer in silence, get mad!

The drama queen

If you think this ‘drama queen’ nonsense only applies to women, you are sadly mistaken (drama king just doesn’t sound right). We are all capable of bratty moments; but some people are another story. If your partner makes situations bigger than they truly are and finds it necessary to talk about the same thing endlessly, you have a dream queen on your hands. Drama lovers thrive on chaos and won’t hesitate to create it when bored. Step back when they get like this and try not to add fuel to the drama-filled fire.

There are plenty of other relationship pet peeves, everyone has their issues! Just be honest and address the situation in a calm and peaceful manner. There is no need for screaming and shouting - not just yet.
