Fishing communities warned of strong winds around Lake Kivu

Moderate to strong wind speed ranging between 4 and 12 metres per second is expected across the country especially around Lake Kivu from July 21 to July 31, Rwanda Meteorology Agency has warned.

Very strong wind speed greater than 10 metres per second is expected in parts of Karongi and Rubavu Districts.

Strong wind speed ranging between 8 and 10 meters a second is expected in many parts of Rubavu, Rutsiro, Karongi, Nyamasheke and Rusizi Districts and parts of Burera and Kirehe Districts.

The agency said that slightly strong wind speed ranging between 6 and 8 meters per second is expected in the remaining parts of Western Province except eastern parts of Nyabihu and Ngororero, and parts of Nyamagabe, Nyaruguru, Nyagatare, Gatsibo, Gicumbi, Burera, Musanze and Kirehe Districts.

Moderate wind speed (between 4 m/s and 6 m/s) is expected in the remaining parts of the country.

"Impacts related to strong winds are expected in Lake Kivu, fishing communities and other parts of the country where strong wind is prevalent," the weather forecast warned, with communities in those areas advised to continue making good use of daily weather information.

"Mitigations measures should be put in place against strong winds."

Bugarama plain, eastern parts of Nyagatare, Gatsibo, Kayonza and Gisagara Districts and parts of the City of Kigali and Bugesera District are expected to experience higher maximum temperature ranging between 28°C and 30°C.

Northern parts of Ngororero, Nyabihu, Burera and Musanze Districts, eastern parts of Rubavu and western parts of Nyaruguru and Nyamagabe Districts are expected to experience lower mean maximum temperatures ranging between 20°C and 22°C.
