Authorities in Rulindo District are in the final stages of rolling out training courses for beekeepers. The training, which seeks to modernise the sector, is being tracked in partnership with a Singaporean investor, Lesster Leow.Leow is said to have received land from Rusiga Sector in Rulindo where he will construct a facility from where he is expected to train members of 13 cooperatives of beekeepers operating the district. The investor said the project is expected to attract all beekeepers from Rulindo as a pilot district.  "I will introduce modern hives and teach them how to modernise archaic hives to make them more productive,” Lesster said, adding that he will also market their honey. Excitement  Beekeepers in the area are excited about the project, which they say will not only lead to an increase in production, but also help them produce quality honey. "I’ve been a beekeeper for 15 years but I expect to improve my business from this training,” said Eric Bapfakurera, from Kinzuzi Sector.  "With 280 beehives, I harvest about 500 kilogrammes of honey per year. However, I am expecting to improve production from these trainings,” Bapfakurera said. Emilienne Niwemwiza, the in charge of social affairs in Rulindo, called upon beekeepers to make use of the opportunity to spur development in the district."If you want to develop yourself, your families and nation, you should embrace this chance and put extra effort in your projects,” she said.
