Rwanda Bureau of Standards (RBS) has urged hospitals and hotels to ensure standard weights and measures. Dr Mark Cyubahiro Bagabe, the director-general of RBS, said considering the role modern technologies play in people’s lives, the accuracy and reliability of measurements need to be continuously improved. He was addressing reporters in Kigali, yesterday, as Rwanda joined the rest of the world to mark the World Metrology Day. The day marks the anniversary of the signing of the meter convention in 1875.  "Hospitals and hotels have to know the role of measurements due to the life of citizens in day to day life,” Cyubahiro said.As part of the celebrations, RBS launched a Metrology Week to focus on raising awareness on measuring equipments in medical establishments and use of freezers and cold rooms in hotels. The day was marked under the theme: "Measurements in daily life”, which officials said was chosen in order to draw attention to the impact of measurements that people come across in daily life. Cyubahiro stressed the importance of ensuring proper food and drugs measurements. Rwanda has been marking the Metrology Day since 2008.
