Students from the School of Finance and Banking (SFB) in partnership with Miss SFB, contributed at the weekend in the construction of a house for a homeless Genocide survivor, Angelique Kayinamura, in Kicukiro District, Kigarama Sector, Kigali City.

The students said they used to commemorate Genocide by visiting various Genocide memorials but this year they chose to approach Genocide survivors by participating in different activities to help them.

The students said that they wanted to help her improve her life.

"This neighbour used to live in a mud house and once it rained, she would suffer very much. As the youth, we felt the need to help her since when you help you get blessings from God,” said Grace Elsie Ingabire, Miss SFB.

The president of student artist’s forum at SFB, Jean Claude Hagenimana, used a song to urge other members to build the culture of self-reliance.

He said that it’s time for the youth to rebuild their country which they destroyed in the past events such as the Genocide.

The beneficiary, Angelique Kayinamura, thanked the students and the good idea they came up with, explaining that she was struggling paying her rent.

The house is being constructed in collaboration with Rwampara residents and students from the School of Finance and Banking where they put together their efforts to find stones, cement and other materials.

Local authorities assure that they are doing their best so that the house can be ready by the end of July.
