Rwanda has been drawn against Namibia and Madagascar in Pool C of the Davis Cup BNP Paribas Africa Zone Group III which is underway at the Smash Tennis Academy in Cairo, Egypt.

The competition has attracted 13 teams all bidding for a chance to earn promotion to Europe/Africa Zone Group II for the 2014 competition.

Rwanda was set to begin their quest against Namibia yesterday by press time. They will then take on Madagascar in today’s final group game.

Rwanda’s team is comprised of skipper Jean Claude Gasigwa, Dieudonne Habiyambere, Mubarak Harelimana and Gatete Hamisi.

Hosts Egypt have been drawn in Pool D alongside Nigeria, Botswana, and Zambia with the winners set to meet the winners of Pool B including  Zimbabwe, Ghana, and Kenya.

Pool A will see Morocco, Algeria, and Cameroon fighting for top place, with the victors playing the winners of Pool C.

Morocco and Egypt will be the favourites going into the event as they are the only teams who can boast four players who all have rankings. Egypt’s Mohamed Safwat holds the highest ranking of any player involved in the Group at No. 320.

Morocco, Madagascar and hosts Egypt were all relegated to Zone Group III last year and are also looking to bounce back and make a swift return to Zone Group II.

Zimbabwe narrowly missed out on promotion last year, and will be hopeful of producing a strong challenge this year.
