The Rwanda Cricket Association (RCA) over the weekend conducted a two-day beginners’ umpiring course aimed at only increasing the number of qualified umpires in the country.
The Rwanda Cricket Association (RCA) over the weekend conducted a two-day beginners’ umpiring course aimed at only increasing the number of qualified umpires in the country. The introductory course sought to realise the basic understanding of the rules of the game. It was attended by 15 participants and was conducted by RCA’s General Manager, Joshua Mwanja, who is a former Ugandan international.According to RCA officials, the continued development of the sport in Rwanda, will improve the game as a whole.Participants comprised of teachers from the schools that recently introduced cricket. Other participants included representatives from all member clubs. Out of the 15, five were ladies. In a bid to spread the game more, many programs to introduce cricket in schools and universities have been put in place which will include games that some of these umpires will officiate. Through these programmes, RCA boasts of having trained 70 umpires that are currently officiating in domestic competitions.
