Copa Coca-Cola quarter final draws set for today

The draws for the quarterfinal the fifth edition of the Copa Coca-Cola football tournament are set to be conducted on Wednesday at the School Sports Federation (RSSF) offices in Kigali.

The draws for the quarterfinal the fifth edition of the Copa Coca-Cola football tournament are set to be conducted on Wednesday at the School Sports Federation (RSSF) offices in Kigali.This year’s competition kicked at the weekend with matches in the round of 16 played in different parts of the country. Over 60 teams started the competition in the early rounds, and last weekend 32 teams for both girls and boys were in action vying for places in the last eight.Copa Coca-Cola started in Rwanda in 2009 and has been a nursery for football talents both for clubs and the national team. Regionally and internationally, Copa Coca- Cola is played regularly in an attempt to scout talented young players, with potential to make a mark on the international scene. "We believe that COPA Coca-Cola tournament is going to raise local players, who are going to be the foundation of professional football in Rwanda,” the Secretary General of RSSF Charles Havuguziga said after the weekend games.The tournament sponsors Bralirwa through the Coca-Cola soft Drink partnered with the ministry of Education (MINEDUC) and School Sports Federation (RSSF) in bringing this tournament to life.Two boys’ teams, Ruhango and Nyanza were banned from this year’s COPA Coca-Coca for attempting to field players, who were above 17 years.
