Editor,Rwanda Education Board (REB) should urgently find a solution to this problem without causing anxiety among students and parents.

If I am right, does this mean that a student who attained senior four in a neighbouring country should come to Rwanda and repeat classes? If so, this is impossible and I don’t see where it’s leading our education system.I think there should have been clear guidelines and universal communication prior to taking such an abrupt decision.REB should realise as much as they want to streamline issues that they should shoulder the blame for all this mess.

They should know better that Rwanda is an open country with different nationalities, parents who have schoolchildren, and that not everyone can afford expensive private schools that conduct international exams. Thank you.Charles Tabara, Kigali***************I don’t deny that there should be reasonable anxieties about the decision, but we must not forget that education is the very foundation of a country. If it’s compromised, then the country’s vision becomes blurred. Imagine if a surgeon was about to operate on you and someone whispers in your ear that he, of course, has a degree but not the one in surgery. Imagine a lawyer, accountant, teacher, vet, agricultural scientist, architect, auditor, etc who are not qualified enough.Education is obtained via the highway, no shortcuts. It’s like a motor rally; no matter how fast or accurate, one must stop at every checkpoint. Getting papers isn’t the end, using the skills to deliver on a job. This education mess is a current global issue but the developing world is the worst hit.People cheat their way to degrees including PhD’s and they end up becoming butchers instead of surgeons, and quacks instead of professionals. Immediately they get into jobs they become perennial liars and start blaming their failures on everyone and everything including the weather.Hope, Nyamirambo, KigaliReactions to the story, "Directive on registration for S6 exams draw mixed reactions”, (The New Times, May 9)
