The Rwanda National Olympic Committee on Sunday launched mini-Olympic competitions at Kagarama Secondary School.
The Rwanda National Olympic Committee on Sunday launched mini-Olympic competitions at Kagarama Secondary School.Students competed in different games including the official sports like football, cricket, volleyball, basketball, karate, athletics and table tennis. However, there were fun games like eating competition, sac racing and acrobats among others. Despite the scorching sun, it didn’t affect the players giving their best. Winners were awarded medals and other prizes including books, balls and tennis rackets.At the end of the one-day competition, Claire Zanni, an International Olympic Committee volunteer attached to the local Olympic committee said, "This is the beginning of our pilot project and our main objective is to develop respect, excellence and friendship among young sportsmen and women.” The event was a success, according to the organisers, and the students highly participated as well as school teachers and other invited guests. The students showed that they don’t excel academically but also in sports.Both girls and boys participated at the same rate, "We are like brothers and sisters, we play together and have fun in all sport,” Belicia Mutesi the skipper of ‘Agata’ house noted.The exercise will continue in other Provinces with two schools in each (Province) being picked to host the competitions which are aimed at developing young talents. After Kigali, Southern Province will follow next weekend.
