Six medical specialists from King Faisal Hospital, Rwanda, have been transferred to the Rwanda Military Hospital-Kanombe. Those transferred mainly include army doctors, who have been serving in different administrative positions. They include Dr Alex Butera, an orthopedic and immediate former chief executive officer of King Faisal Hospital, Rwanda. He was replaced by Dr Emile Rwamasirabo in the position of chief executive. The urologist–a specialist in disorders of the urinary tract or urogenital system–assured that the changes would not affect the medical service delivery at the hospital since those transferred will still be working there as visiting doctors. "There is absolutely no change as the hospital will still be receiving the medical services of the transferred doctors although they will no longer be holding the administrative posts at the hospital. We shall continue to strive to provide quality medical care through bringing in more specialists as well,” said the new acting CEO.Part-timers stayDr Rwamasirabo said plans are underway to bring in more specialists such as heart surgeons, kidney transplant specialists and laparoscopic specialists from abroad and also to train more Rwandan specialists in various fields. He said eight of the medical specialists who are part-timers with King Faisal Hospital, Rwanda, and the Rwanda Military Hospital will not be affected by the changes and will continue working as usual. The Military Hospital is developing and there is need for more specialists hence the transfer of the team from King Faisal Hospital, Rwanda, to the military hospital, according to Dr Rwamasirabo.The changes come a few months after the hospital was given autonomy.
