The competition’s first road show held in Rusizi district last Saturday, attracted huge crowds of music fans from all walks of life.As the 11 contestants descended on the town, fans lined along the streets to have a glimpse of the music stars.The emcees, Anita Pendo and Tino did not disappoint as they entertained the crowd with rib-cracking jokes. Urban Boyz were the first to hit the stage at around 2pm. The trio fired up the cold afternoon with their popular hits as the crowd screamed ecstatically.James Manzi, alias Humble Jizzo, Safi Niyibikora aka Safi Lee and Muhammed Nshimiyimana, known as Nizzo, performed a number of their songs including Bibaye, Wampoye iki, Kelele and Ibitenge.Mico Prosper, alias Mico the Best was next on stage, performing Umutaka, alongside upcoming artiste Social. Within the crowd, it was easy to spot fans carrying placards with the names of the stars they support. The Afrobeat singer also performed Sinakwibagiye, a collaboration with Tanzanian artiste Diamond. He also performed Bye Bye and Akabizu-songs which were well received by the mammoth crowd.Then, Christopher took to the stage, performing Iri Joro, Uwo munsi and Habona followed by the only female contestant, Knowless. She excited the crowd with her popular hits Nzaba Mpari and Wari uri Hehe. Knowless surprised the audience when she performed a gospel song, Niwowe mugenga wanjye Yezu, a famous track among Catholics. She asked the audience to sing along with her, to which everyone did.Eric Senderi, aka Senderi International Hit, was welcomed on stage with monotonic sounds of vuvuzelas being blown by the crowd.The energetic Senderi and his two dancers wowed the crowd with his hits including the latest Nsomyaho, Zahabu and Nta cash.Dream Boys followed with their emotional single Data ni nde as their standout, followed by the rhythmical Jugu Jugu which proved to be the fans favourite. The duo also performed Baramponda, alongside Knowless and Mumutashye.After it was time for Hip-hop lovers to get on their feet and dance as rapper Fireman performed his songs, Ca Inkoni izamba’ with Jay C, Itanga Ishaka and Mama Rwanda, a mix of Hip-hop and traditional melody.Rapper Bull Dogg equally excited the crowd with the renditions of Ibya Mirenge and Kaza Roho among others songs.Up next was Kamichi, who also took the audience to another level, with his songs, Byacitse, Kabimye and Ifirimbi ya nyuma before concluding with Aho Ruzingiye.Riderman got almost the whole audience on their feet with his rapid-fire rhymes. He performed, Abanyabirori and Horo, but it was when he stroke up his, Bombori Bombori that the crowd danced uncontrollably. Danny Nanone was the last to grace the stage but the singer did not disappoint.He belted out a number of tracks including Amanyarwanda, Mbikubwire and Narya dance among others.As one fan put it after the concert, Saturday’s road show was an excellent beginning for all contestants.Primus Guma Guma Superstar competition is an annual music contest organised by Bralirwa Ltd. The winner of the competition becomes Primus ambassador and receives Rwf24 million cash prize. The next road show will be in Nyamagabe next weekend.
