About 80 stakeholders in the Rwandan leasing industry were trained on leasing by Sudhir Amembal and Associates, a leasing consultancy firm.
The training was aimed at increasing the profiles of firms and individuals involved in the leasing. Amembal said leasing has got a lot of opportunities to offer in the country’s economic development.
"But this can only be realistic if the lesser and lessee are educated on the opportunities that lie in this industry,” he explained.
Amembal added that training on leasing builds confidence amongst all the parties involved in the industry. The trainees included top executives of banks and non banking institutions, leasing companies, automobile dealers and suppliers among others stakeholders.
David Kuwana, the Rwanda Leasing Association Vice Chairman said the training was of great importance to the development of the leasing industry in Rwanda.
Kuwana who is also the Managing Director of Rwanda Commercial Bank (BCR) added that the training highlighted issues to do with challenges and opportunities that lie in leasing. They also learnt about the advantages and disadvantages of different types of leasing.
The training was conducted during the African Leasing Convention (Afrolease). It is expected that certificates will be awarded to all trainees. Last year, about 56 participants were trained by the same associate.
BCR, Rwanda Development Bank (BRD), and Fina Bank are the founder members of the national leasing association.
