AS Muhanga reached the semi final of the Peace Cup against Malaria competition for the first time in its history after surviving a first leg scare to defeat Mukura Victory Sport 3-0 in the second leg of the quarter final yesterday at Stade Muhanga in Southern Province.

AS Muhanga went into the game with a 1-0 goal deficit from last week’s first leg in Huye but a well taken goal from Uganda born striker Mike Oduuke the first half put the home side 1-0 with ten minutes to recess.

In the second half, Ali Bizimana’s side maintained the pressure on their visitors in bid to snatch a decisive goal aggregate win so as to seek passage into the last four.

Mukura continued to attack in the second half but were short of the good finishing skills ass they blundered vital chances to equalise.

Muhanga reasserted its grip with a rapid two-goal salvo in the last twenty minutes of the second half with Nasser Irakoze driving in sharp shots past Mukura’s goal keeper Robert Shyaka.

In the semi finals, AS Muhanga will take on Bugesera who beat Vision FC 2-1 on Tuesday to qualify to the semi final with a 5-3 goal aggregate.

In the other quarter final, defending champion APR was forced to a goalless draw by Isonga at Stade de Kigali. However, the military side still qualified with a 2-1 win secured in the first leg.

Both sides shot blanks as they entertained fans with their sleek football display. APR were culprits to find the net as Maxime Sekamana, Nova Bayama, Jean Claude Iranzi and Tumaine Ntamuhanga all wasted clear chances to register a win for the military side.

Papy Sibomana also wasted two free kicks whch would have changed their status in as far as qualifying for the last four is concerned. With the result, APR will face a tough task against AS Kigali in the semi finals of the Peace Cup against Malaria competition whose first leg is expected to be played next week.

AS Kigali cruised into the semi finals after a 3-1 win over Musanze on Tuesday in a match which was hosted at Kicukiro turf.

Skipper Jimmy Mbaraga scored a double while Muhamud Kabula added himself on the score sheet. Former APR winger Bebeto Lwamba scored the consolation goal for Musanze.

The country’s oldest club Peace Cup competition is sponsored by Imbuto Foundation to a tune of Rwf97m.

The winner will represent Rwanda in the 2014 Caf Confederation Cup.
