The fight between Nakumatt Holdings and Simba Supermarket for Kigali’s shoppers has taken a new turn with the impending entry of another Kenyan retailer Uchumi Supermarket into the local market.Both Nakumatt and Simba have two branches each in Kigali’s Central Business District.To increase its outreach, regional retailer Nakumatt has unveiled plans to introduce a containerised mini-retail store to provide shopping solutions during special events in remote locations.The new retail store will be developed and housed in a 20-feet shipping container and will be on standby for rapid deployment countrywide. The new store will be operated under the ‘Nakumatt on Wheels’ (NoW) brand name.Speaking in Nairobi, Nakumatt Holdings managing director Atul Shah, said the first store would be in the country after the completion of the firm’s ongoing pilot phase in Nairobi, Kenya."The Nakumatt on Wheels project will provide retail convenience to smart shoppers in remote locations,” Shah said.
