KICUKIRO - The Evangelist Church of Rwanda (EER), a protestant church in Remera, on Sunday launched the first ever Fathers’ Union in Rwanda, which brings together married male members of the church.

This was during the fathers’ day celebrations that took place on Sunday at the church. The formation of this union came as a measure by the church to control the tendency of young men opting for unofficial marriages, as a way of eluding responsibilities and quest for convenience.

"This intends to cultivate a sense of responsibility, sacrifice, hard work and genuine love among the people of God in this church, as well as other people outside the church,” said Pastor Jean Paul Ruzindana.

"Apart from strengthening the marriage institution basing on Christian values that are central to every believer, this union will work to resolve conflicts in the church and in homes,” he added.

Among other highlighted goals of this establishment included cultivating a culture of sharing, fostering unity among Christians and promoting exemplary leadership.

Activities like arbitration into marriage wrangles of church members with a purpose of bringing reconciliation, helping of vulnerable groups like orphans, widows, among others, will be conducted.

The newly appointed president of this union, Pastor Edward Nkurikiyumukiza, welcomed both the idea of the union and his appointment.

"I congratulate the church upon establishing this important institution, which will not only benefit the church but also the entire country, because its impact will be for the whole society,” said Nkurikiyimukiza.
