University students from East African Community (EAC) partner states have called on their respective governments to ensure integration matters are part of the education curricula.The students, from all the five EAC countries, made the request yesterday during an EAC sensitisation meeting in Bujumbura, Burundi."There is lack of knowledge on EAC issues and this is why there should be a policy where all universities have short programmes to initiate students in EAC issues,” said Rebbeca Nindorera, a student at Ecole Normale Superieure du Burundi. Callixte Nsengiyumva, another student said there is urgent need for higher learning institutions  to share scientific research knowledge to enable the region produce more scientists. The students also cited a general poor implementation of the already ratified EAC legal instruments by EAC partner states.Professor Pontien Ndandeneze, the Deputy Executive Secretary of the Inter University Council for East Africa (IUCEA), said that preparations towards harmonising the education curricula in the region are in advanced stages. The EAC has embarked on a region wide sensitisation campaign of its programmes and activities among university students.
